A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR FARM

The Colonel Norman Perry House

Our historic 1831 home is one of the oldest homes in Macomb County. The home is named after the man that first settled here in the early 1820s. The property was known as "the branch" and was home to the first schoolhouse in the area. This photo was taken in the early 1970s when our family first purchased the property.

This greek revival, that was built during Andrew Jackson's presidency, is part of the settlement where Armada Township was both established and named. This farm has seen so much history and had many names including Witham Farms. We now refer to the house as 'Trillium House'. We are unsure of when any of the black and white photos were taken.

The Barns

While the home is older than the barns, these barns are an estimated 130 years old. The one pictured here is our reception barn. These barns have been renovated and added onto many times throughout their existence and we are so pleased to have found photos during some of this historic construction.

The Barns

We appreciate their hard work and craftsmanship that allows us to enjoy the barns as we do today. If you've been to the farm, you know that these are brave men in this picture.

The Barns

This is a photo of our barns before the reception barn was all connected as one. Still unsure of the year these photos were taken, unfortunately.

Our shop barn and corn crib are pictured here circa 1975.

The River

The reason why the property was historically referred to as "The Branch", the Clinton River bends through the back and west end of the property. This photo was taken in the early 1970s and has a much different view now. There has been an explosion of flora in the area leaving the river unseen from the farm in the warmer months.
